2.2 Installing Prestashop using the automatic installer

If you have gotten this far you should now have:

if you miss any of the above please correct it.

Building a webshop is easier then before.

Back in the day programming was a tough nut to crack and installing a complete webshop could take up to several hours for experienced developers let alone someone without experience. Now a days installing a site using a webshop system like Prestashop is a piece of cake. All you need are the right credentials from your hosting (Think your hosting is cheap? try HostingXs ) for your database and hosting.

Follow the following steps to install Prestashop

  1. To start the Prestashop installer go to http://www.yourdomain.com/install;
  2. You should see a screen like the following:
  3. Prestashop installer startup screenChoose your preferred language for the installation;
  4. At what do you want to do select: “I want to install a new online shop with Prestashop“;
  5. Agree to the terms and conditions of Prestashop;
  6. Click next;
  7. If you followed my previous steps right about ch-modding and your hosting meets the technical requirements necessary for Prestashop you should get the following message: “Your configuration is valid, click “Next” to continue!”;
  8. Click next;
  9. Now comes the time to fill up the database we created earlier with all the tables Prestashop needs;
  10. You should see a screen like the following:
  11. setting up your database installing prestashopYour Database server name usually is “Localhost“;
  12. You should know your own database name, login, password and tables prefix;
  13. Click on verify my database settings and make sure it returns: “Database is connected“;
  14. At installation type select: “Full mode: includes core modules, 100+ additional modules and demo products (FREE)”;
  15. Leave e-mail configuration empty we will change this later;
  16. Click next;
  17. You should now see a screen like the following:
  18. prestashop shop configuration installerChoose a shop name;
  19. Choose a default country;
  20. Choose a shop timezone;
  21. Upload a logo if you have one we will do this in a article later on;
  22. At catalog mode select: “No” (Except if you want it to be a catalog instead of a shop);
  23. Choose a first name;
  24. Choose a last name;
  25. Choose a email address (This will be used as username later on);
  26. Choose a shop password;
  27. Do not check the check box at: “;
  28. Click next.

Prestashop says “Installation complete” but is it?

A fact is you just started and only just installed the software on your host. No it’s time for the right settings. But wait not so fast! Have you read the following warning?

changing the install folder for security reasons

WARNING: For security purposes, you must delete the “install” folder.

  1. Open Filezilla (If you don’t have Filezilla installed or don’t know what it is go to: Downloading FTP(File transfer protocol) software (Filezilla));
  2. Search for the install folder and delete it;
  3. Search for the admin folder and rename it to something you think is easy to remember.

Security risk using Prestashop chmod

Don’t forget to change your chmod back to 755 and 644 as told in the previous post.

    I was basically wondering if you ever thought of modifying the page layout of your site? It is very well written; I enjoy what you have got to state. But maybe you can include a a bit more in the way of written content so people can connect to it better. You have got a great deal of text for only having one or two pictures. Maybe you can space it out better?

    You really make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this topic to be actually something that I think I would never understand. It seems too complicated and extremely broad for me. I am looking forward for your next post, I’ll try to get the hang of it!
